Mental Health First Aid Programme

 

Course information

Format: The delivery of the 12-hour MHFA course is flexible. It can be carried out over 2 full days, (2 sessions each day), over 4 days or 4 weekends (one session each time).

MHFA Course Content

The course covers the mental health crisis situations of:
  • Suicidal behaviour/thoughts
  • Panic attack/Acute stress reaction
  • Acute psychotic behaviour
  • Drug Overdose
The common mental health problems covered are:
  • Mood disorders
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Psychosis
  • Addiction problems/Additional module (can be mental health problems in older persons, workplace mental health issues OR self-harm behaviours)

 

MHFA OP Course Content

Psychosis in the older person
Pratical First Aid step:
  • What to do if a psychotic older person is threatening violence / if the person does not want help.
Depression in the older person
Practical First Aid Step:
  • How to help the older person having suicidal ideas
Anxiety disorders in the older person
Practical First Aid step:
  • How to help the older person having panic attacks / who has experienced a traumatic event
Confusion in the older person and self-care
Practical First Aid step:
  • How to help the older person who is confused
  • Promoting Good Mental Health and Self-care
